What you could add to your nonfiction book.
Brooklynn added a page to tell us why she chose to make her book about baking cookies.
She also added a part on a page called "Did You Know?"
Gavin P. added some tabs to help organize what's on each page.

News for this week.
Hi all! Here's some information you might like to know:
This week we have:
This week we have:
- continued to work through strategies for reading and comprehending nonfiction. We've learned about diagrams, captions, glossaries, tables of contents, and parenthesis.
- created our own nonfiction books during Writing Workshop. As we learn more about nonfiction, we write it better. Be on the lookout for more of our books on the blog soon!
- finished working with regrouping in subtraction and learning to do problems with more than one step.
- practiced adding and subtracting (and even some multiplication) every morning for our morning work. We're noticing we are getting MUCH faster at this!
- been keeping up with the Olympics and the medal count. Go Team USA!
- Today I sent home NWEA reports (thanks for the reminder that I forgot to send them, Kassy!). Be on the lookout for those and please let me know what questions you have. They aren't the be-all, end-all, but they do give us helpful information to add to our collection. :)
- New spelling words will come home on Monday. Sorry for all the confusion...since I work in small groups or one-on-one with the kids on spelling, I have a hard time feeling good about testing them when we haven't had a full week of school. So hopefully next week will be back to normal!

News for This Week!
Oh my goodness, between sick kids, delays, and snow days, I haven't posted this news in awhile! My sincere apologies to you. Here are some very important things you should know:
- We will be having our Valentine's Day on Friday, February 14th, at 1:00. Please come if you'd like to! Mrs. Klinefelter may be calling you to ask you to help with that if you can. Also, at the end of this post is a list of students in our class (we have 22).
- Next week we will be completing our CogAt tests. These are fairly quick, pencil-and-paper tests used by the corporation to determine students that are high-achieving and what we can do to help them.
- You will find a report for the most recent NWEA scores. Look for growth from first grade to now. Please let me know if you have questions about them--they can be very difficult to understand!
- We will not have school on Monday, February 17th in honor of Presidents Day.
- Please remember to read 20 minutes (or more) each night. Make it part of your routine, just like brushing your teeth!
- Spelling words are coming home today (FINALLY!). I haven't sent them for several weeks because we practice the patterns during our word study time and it's not really fair for me to ask students to take a test on them when we haven't had our daily word study time. Please remember to learn the PATTERNS/RULES rather than just the words. They'll be familiar with many more words if they learn the pattterns!
- If you'd like to send more snacks, we'd love it!
- Please send us your Box Tops too!

Happy 100th Day!
So far, we've sorted cereal...
...tried to think of 100 things we'd love and not like...
...written a hundred words...
...are in the process of writing 100 Big Ideas from the (more than) 100 books we've read together this year...
...playing a game to see who rolls to 100 first...
...and our favorite thing: playing with 100 balloons!
