Slice of Life: Mrs. Overman #4

Mom, don't read this. It will only solidify what we all know to be true.

Ian loves his "Upa" (22-month-old language for "Grandpa"). With Daddy gone all week, it's been rough. Each morning I've entered Ian's room to hear him say "Daaa?" ("Where's Dad?") only to reply with "Honey, he's not here today. Only a couple more days."

I hear, "Maa! Maa! Mimi! Mimi!" ("Mommy, pick me up!") from the next room. I throw back the flannel sheets, step over Sophie (who has, by the way, positioned herself directly where my feet hit the floor first thing in the morning), and turn the corner to see a smiling toddler face saying, "Daa?"

"Honey, Daddy's still at work, remember?"
"Uma?" ("Is Grandma here?")
"Yes, baby."
"Upa?!" ("Is Grandpa here?")
"Yes. Do you want to see them?"

Ian says, "Uh huh!" while clapping his hands excitedly and we round the corner into Grandma and Grandpa's guest room.
