Slice of Life: Mrs. Overman

Random thoughts. I'm trying to keep my pencil going for an entire ten minutes. Ambitious, huh? Maybe not for some people. I've asked the kids to try too, so I am doing it with them.

I'm exhausted today. Absolutely exhausted. We still have a sick Golden Retriever (this has happened before, so I'm a little concerned, but not too worried) keeping us up at night. We love our dogs like our own children and would do mostly anything for them...including taking them to the vet when it's inconvenient and sacrificing sleep.

Why must some kids always make noise? I think it's because it's so loud at their houses they're almost uncomfortable with silence. Or they just need to fidgit...? Oh well. I've learned to tune MOST of the crazy noises out after seven years of teaching and then having a toddler. It's not really too bothersome.

It's colder today than it has been lately. Actually, it's really just normal for this time of year; we've just been spoiled with 80-degree temps over the last few weeks.

My mom is here to paint Brenna's room today. I'm glad because at this point, I think I'm so tired that painting is about the last thing on my list of things to do. I hope we can get more stuff done before she gets here...5 weeks and 6 days...it's getting close, thank goodness! I must be looking as if I'm about to explode because people keep looking at me saying, "Oh, hi...and how are you doing?" with a little bit of a sympathy nod afterwards. Ha!

We read "City Dog, Country Frog" by Mo Willems today. It's such a great story, although I felt bad for the poor doggie who lost his froggy friend. If only the main character would have been a cat, I wouldn't have been so sad...joking! Well...kinda.

Hmm...more random connected thoughts. I could use a nap right now. Really. I'm excited that next week, Spring Break, will be full of long mommy/toddler naps and relaxing days. Although, we do have a few things planned throughout the week, but it still should be relaxing.

My mom is here now, but she's going home tonight and coming back tomorrow with my dad when he's done working. Maybe we could squeeze in a date night if they're here early enough. That would be fun! We rarely eat out (or carry out, or anything!), so when we get to, it's really a treat.

Baby shower next weekend...I know it's not traditional to have one for baby #2, but my sister-in-law (who is so sweet) wanted to have one because she wasn't around for Ian's shower. I said "Of course!". We've just asked people to bring diapers, cute little girl things, etc. We have the main things we need for having an actual baby of any kind. :)

Slice of Life: Mrs. Overman

Last night I was as tired as ever. Being 34 weeks pregnant, I no longer sleep more than about three hours at a time thanks to having to pee nonstop (No, I don't believe the whole "It's your body getting you ready for the baby" scenario. How in the world does losing sleep now making losing more sleep later from the baby easier?). I do what I can to keep my energy up (exercising, eating well, getting to bed at a decent time)...I can't imagine what I'd be like if I didn't.

Anyway, yesterday I came home from a day of walking around school as usual after picking up Ian. Together my little superhero and I made homemade (healthy) granola bars, munched on the uncooked "dough," and got dinner ready together. Then Evan came home and spent some quality "man time" with Ian; together they played hide-and-seek and wrestled while I finished up dinner.

We had a lovely family dinner as usual, sprinkled with two-year-old conversation (always a plus), and put Ian in the tub. Soon we were picking out Buzz Lightyear jammies, brushing teeth, and reading stories with him. Before I knew it, Ian was in bed.

If only I could sit on the couch doing NOTHING for a bit....

Quickly Evan started cleaning up the dinner dishes and loading the dishwasher while I packed our lunches for the next day. I immediately went to the couch to work on the book Ruth and I are writing while Evan fed our two other hairy (Golden Retriever) children.

Finally, after much writing, I unloaded the laundry, folded it, put it away, had a snack, showered, and fell into bed.

Can I just get one more hour in the day? I'm tired from just writing this, and I'm not nearly as busy as half the people I know!

Mrs. Overman's Slice of Life: Froot Loops.

We have a Golden Retriever with a stomach virus at our house (not to worry--she has things like this sometimes--she'll be fine), meaning she's up twice to potty in the night right now. Combine that with the fact that I'm already up twice during the night being pregnant and you get one very tired momma. Needless to say, 6:00 (Ian's usual wake-up time) rolls around early. Typically around 6:00 every morning we hear, "Mommy! Mommy! I need you!" coming from his room. This morning we heard a new one:

"Mommy! I need Froot Loops!"

Well, good morning, dear....

Slice of Life: Mrs. Overman

Well, just when I thought I was out of the pregnancy nausea...it's baaaaaack for a repeat performance with just six weeks to go!

Hooray. *rolls eyes*

I hope you can sense my sarcasm.

Apparently Baby Brenna is now taking up so much space near my tummy that even the slightest bit of extra food pushes me to the edge. It's lovely.

Sunday morning Evan asked me to make our favorite homemade waffles for breakfast before church. I whipped them up, cooked a little one for Ian, cooked Evan's, then mine. I ate my crispy vanilla-cinnamon waffle right up...so delicious and fluffy, with just a bit of light syrup and light butter. A glass of ice-cold milk topped it off nicely.

Then...well, let's just say I saw it again very quickly.

But no need to fret! I managed to eat another breakfast right after that. And held it down perfectly.

Pregnancy: it's not for wimps.

Eagles!

We're watching a live eagle cam on our SMARTBoard today hoping her eggs will hatch! You can watch too at:http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles

We have visitors today!

Look! Makensie brought in some of her baby chickens. Their names are Blackerena, Bannie, and Dougie. They are in second grade today!

Slicing is hard.

Mya said, "When I know my Slice of Life is going to be really short, I think of stuff to make it longer."

What are some things you add to your Slices to make them longer?

Dylan: I quit for a minute and think for a little bit.

Kelsey: I add made-up and weird words.

Claira: I add more words, like I tell them what's really happening.

Abi: I add important words.

Mya: I added what we did before we had popsicles.

Beau: I added my sister in my slice because I forgot about her and I added a lot of stuff about her.

Avery: I added a little comma at the bottom instead of the period so my sentence wasn't over.

Dylan: Think in your head what you're writing--what you'll write next.

Mrs. O: Sometimes I like to sketch pictures and then I remember more things.

Abi: Add things that are important to you, like friends.

Slice of Life: Mrs. Overman's Random Thoughts.

It's such a rainy day today. There are days where I have no idea what to write, but I write anyway. I tell my kids to "write anyway," so I better do it too.

It cracks me up how teachers often say, "I can't teach writing because I'm not a writer. I don't like writing." Just do it. Just write. You'll learn right beside them, even if you think you won't. And you'll gain more sympathy for those kids that drive you nuts spending 15 minutes "thinking" and 2 minutes writing.

It's raining. I miss the sunshine and warm temperatures. We've been so spoiled with 80 degrees lately, although by evening it's so hot (and I'm so pregnant) that it's not really that great.

6 weeks from today starts my maternity leave! Then we'll have Brenna! Wow. Time flies. I try not to wish away anything, but I'm really ready to meet her for many reasons. Her room is so far from ready, it's actually making me (the procrastinator of certain things) nervous...she might just be sleeping in the cradle after all....eek!

We're headed to Indy tonight for our nephew's birthday party. Sounds like a good time to us!

I'm ready for a nap. I wonder what the kids would do if I actually did fall asleep? There's a mental image for you! Although I have a feeling a few of them would fall asleep too.

My friend has an ultrasound today to find out what baby #3 is. I need to be sure to send her a message.

Getting pics taken for the back cover of our book is about the last thing I want to do right now...I feel so bloated and all that, but it must be done! Yikes!

Happy Friday, everyone.
